Use this calculator to design your glazing-storefront mullions for resistance against flood and wind.

This calculator determines flood and wind loading per FEMA and ASCE and applies those loads to an aluminum storefront system. Input the storefront height and mullion spacing along with flood loading criteria such as V-Zone or Coastal A-Zone, base flood elevation (BFE), free board (FB), finished floor height (FF), design water velocity, breaking waves, impact loads, debris weight, risk category, upstream screening, building structure, and wind pressure on the opening. The calculator then outputs surcharge depth, breaking wave height, design flood elevation (DFE), hydrostatic pressure, hydrodynamic pressure, breaking wave force, debris impact force, and the governing load combination. Input the aluminum alloy and temper, section modulus, and moment of inertia of the storefront system and the calculator will determine based on bending stress and deflection checks if the proposed storefront system can withstand the applied flood and wind loads.
