What could very well be the largest impact glass size to go for a product approval is in the test lab now and performing extremely well. Andrew Piedra, Engineering Express’s Glass & Glazing Department Manager has been closely monitoring the testing of this colossal 8′-0″ wide by 16′-6″ tall X 3 panel test unit undergo extensive impact, cycling, and flood barrier testing at Fenestration Testing Lab in Miami, Florida (large missile impact D and enhanced missile E for emergency facilities even!). The photo below shows the water portion of the test at 2′ which will grow to 4′ tall before the test ends.
The system is in development by the well respected company Fenex Corporation who has manufactured some of the largest flat and curved glass in the industry. The product approval for this massive opening will be ready in time for the 2017 Florida Building Code.
