Part 1: Base Investment
There’s a minimum time for bringing a calculator live for you.
Here’s a walkthrough of the process:
Start - Phase 1
Base Calculations
Every interface is tailor-made to suit your product and audience. Colors, layout, and components are carefully chosen to align with your brand and make the experience intuitive.
Existing clients may have previous calculations with varying degrees of complexity for calculator integration.
New clients may start from our templates from similar projects or may have to be coded from scratch.
Custom items such as has fee estimating tools, take-offs, and bills of material are coded on a per-need basis.
Hourly fees for this phase is a minimum of 4 development hours and could extend many hours higher (40 hours or more) based on custom needs.
Phase 2
Interface Design & Coding
This is the part you see on your computer or tablet.
We code each calculator using modern front-end frameworks to ensure they work smoothly on all screen sizes and devices—user friendly, fast, responsive, and visually consistent.
Each unique calculator goes through a visual architecture design where layout, images, inputs based on previous responses, and answer format is all storyboarded.
This is a minimum of a 2 day design process for a new tool, with time added for client input. (16++ development hours)
Phase 3
Internal Database Setup
Every calculator has a corresponding input and output database.
The input database stores stock and custom materials for that client the calculator uses in drop-downs.
Output information is stored in another database which can be recalled by the client for reuse, or for our engineering review & processing.
this setup time is between 4-8 development hours and 2 setup/admin hours, depending on previous setups.
Final - Phase 4
Project Order & Re-Implementation Of Data
Last, a custom interface is set up to allow the client to place an engineering order using their optimized design.
This order can be attached to sketches drawn with our drawing tool, or an order from our project quoting system.
This integrated system provides all the tools to allow the ideal engineering to be processed in the fastest way available on the planet (2+- development hours).
Base Investment Summary Costs
From the minimum hours above, at our current design rate ($250/hr), a typical calculator would be between 30-40 hours to create ($7,500-$10,000). Fees would increase as customization and unique situations arise.
Similar calculators that are in service would still need a minimum time to customize the database, login, saving, and ordering.
24 Development hours is our estimated minimum time to bring a calculator to market from an existing template, or one that’s shared between industries ($6,000/tool).
Keep in mind, Engineering Express has month’s of development time invested in creating this system from scratch before we begin with client projects, which is recuperated over the long-term benefit of making client interactions easier and reducing friction in us optimizing the design. This would be taken into account as the site-specific design potential of calculators are assessed and may increase base or monthly fees if site-specific work isn’t a measurable factor.
Part 2: Ongoing Maintenance
Just like your phone, our servers run on programs that need constant upgrading and security patches.
Questions also arise with unique situations, how-to’s, and general needs which staff is available for.
New features will also arise which will be incorporated as they beome available. Our work with AI is a big part of the future of these tools as well, with amazing possibilities for you on the horizon.
Engineering Express allocates a minimum of 2 development hours per month per calculator to support and maintenance of the tool system ($500 base maintenance fee per tool per month minimum).
Part 3: Discounts & Program Incentives
Calculator fees for manufacturers with multiple dealers would be split between dealers, plus their unique calculator needs.
A discount consideration is also given to existing VIP clients over dealers who would use our system without engineering or with their own engineer.
As applicable and discussed on a per-client basis, Tokens are offered for purchase of fully automated or pre-engineered plans along with subscriptions.
Engineering Support Channels are also built and maintained as part of your subscription as applicable.
Click here to see live channel sites.
Most importanly, site-specific project fees would be minimized since much of the hourly interaction to design and approve plans is greatly reduced by putting the power of pre-engineering in the client’s hands. Our quote fees and time to completion will be reduced far beyond the single monthly fee.
The amount of money a typical client saves from optimizing beams or columns on just one project saves multiple times the montly fee alone.

FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
I have my own engineer. Can he have access to the calculator and underlying calculations?
Yes. We can provide a sample calculation booklet to demonstrate our methodology. Your design professional can then recreate the calculations and determine how to utilize our tool for estimating.
Please note that an additional monthly fee will be applied if we don’t perform a minimum amount of engineering work for you as a client.
How Do I Activate & Access My Subscription?
1. For Private Calculators, our staff will send you a link to purchase the subscription.
2. You can add additional email addresses, separated by commas, for others who you wish to also have a subscription*
* NOTE: each person assigned to use a calculator needs to have a free account on our website
3. After this is complete, you will see the subscription and product(s) you are subscribed to in your Dashboard
If your plan includes Tokens, credits will be automatically applied upon auto-payment renewal each month. Additional Tokens can be purchased at any time, or products could be directly purchased whenever needed by whomever needs them.
As always, we’re available by Chat, message, or contact your dedicated engineer or project manager using their direct line given to you to help at any time.
How do I access my calculators?
Part of our setup and training includes granting access to your calculators from an area on your Engineering Express Dashboard.
Your dashboard is your hub for calculators, plans, drawings you create, tokens, and more.
Can I pause and reinstate my subscription?
Yes, with limitations. Reenacting a subscription after time has passed risks the possibility that code changes, rule updates, and updates to the standards of care for design elements may have changed.
Hourly fees may be incurred to reinstate a tool and implement these updates, which may have been performed as part of your monthly maintenance service, for which the subscription is designed. We would quote this fee upon reinstatement as needed, based on the hours required to bring your tool up to date.
Can I buy the calculator source code or have access to the source calculation file?
Unfortunately, our intellectual property is the sole ownership of our company and not for sale.
It is also a risk to put the source code of engineering in the hands of others, and may also be considered an ethical or rule breach by engineering boards.
This is why our calculators were invented in fact, to provide a safe, controlled means for our clients to pre-design structures, while providing safeguards in which to do so.
Am I invoiced for my subscription? How is this paid monthly?
Calculators are typically purchased through a monthly subscription agreement via our online plan store. These monthly fees are automatically processed by our merchant provider through a credit card on file with them.
Monthly invoicing for payment can be set up upon approval; however, additional fees will apply for staff to invoice, process, post, and reconcile the payments.
Who is responsible for any errors in the calculations or if the building department doesn’t accept the results?
Per the terms & conditions of our agreement, should you choose to quote or construct anything from the responses of our online tools without the review and original certification from a licensed engineer on staff (or your design professional), you would be entirely responsible.
After our engineers (or your design professional) review the project and seal the responses, so long as that design is followed, the liability for reviewing and certifying the work is no different than any other traditional project designed.
